Women's Horse Packing Clinic

  • Wide Sky Adventures 316 Otter Creek Road Big Timber, MT, 59011 United States (map)

Join us for a 3 day/ 2 night horsepacking clinic for women!

During this experience, you will gain knowledge of hitches and loads using sawbuck and decker packing systems. You'll become familiar with ponying and stringing together pack animals, and backcountry horseshoeing, vet care, and animal restraint. You will also learn to balance the hard work of packing for recreational use with the fun times that these amazing animals bring us.

This class is intended for horsewomen who want an introduction to recreational packing, or women who want to solidify their skills with expert guidance. The goal is self-sufficiency while building competence and confidence. You will have opportunity with repetition of the basics both on and off your saddle horse so you can develop your own feel within these systems to pack safely. Although we will introduce you to mantying cargo, we will generally use basket hitches with iron cloth bags, box hitches with a lash cinch system around panniers, both with and without top loads.

This clinic will take place on private ranchlands east of the Crazy mountains, where we will get to explore serene shortgrass prairie landscape.
